Be it steam or gas, Lapauw has the answer

With steam pressures as high as 15 bar, steam heated chests are subject to tremendous forces and wear.

A thin, flexible chest simply cannot perform under these conditions and will fail prematurely. Lapauw realized this and is why the Lapauw’s Hinged Bed System has proven so successful

With the patented hinged chest you have 2 x 15 mm thick shells per roll, fixed together by Lapauw’s Hinge System. The hinge provides flexibility whilst the tick shells withstand very high steam pressures, completely eliminating chest distortion. The hinged bed system was used on Lapauw’s first Ironer, manufactured over 60 years ago and is still used today.

In 1994, Lapauw develops the gas heated ironer. Using non corrosive thermal oil at low circulating pressures provided the ideal conditions for the 1 piece thin, flexible chest. The thin bed provides the same flexibility and bed to roll coverage as the steam hinged bed (Lapauw’s Trademark). The thin bed also allows us to use small quantities of thermal oil.

Stainless Steel is not used in the manufacture of Lapauw’s flexible chests

We rely on high quality standard grade steel for all of our chests. This may seem a small detail but it is an extremely important factor! Standard grade steel is a far better heat conductor than stainless steel, giving greater efficiency and optimal heat distribution over the complete ironing surface. This eliminates temperature differences over the ironing surface (cold spots), ensuring high performance and quality Ironing.

The closed loop hydraulic circuit for raising and closing the ironer chests is a very simple system, integral to the ironer, not relying on external sources. Hydraulic oil is also not susceptible to external factors (such as temperature), guaranteeing you reliable and constant chest pressure. The hydraulic pump allows you to regulate the systems pressure, ensuring optimal ironing criteria.

Lapauw’s flexible chests, either steam or gas, follow the contour of the ironer roll thanks to the integral hydraulic system and self-aligning flexible chests. This means no matter what thickness the ironer felt is, what type of linen is being processed you are guaranteed 100% contact between chest and roll, giving optimal ironing conditions……always
